Today, I want to take you on a journey back to one of my earlier creations, a piece that has evolved significantly over the years.
.
Introducing ZelliFood, a concept that first came to life in 2010 and reached its final form in 2016. This project is not just a design; it’s a story of evolution, collaboration, and cultural fusion.
.
ZelliFood was born from a unique culinary performance, a collaboration between myself and Fabrice Vulin @fabrice.vulin , a Michelin two starred chef. This partnership led to the creation of an object that blends industrial design with artisanal craftsmanship, a concept I like to call « indusanat. »
.
The design of ZelliFood is inspired by the traditional Moroccan zellige, reimagined in 3D to serve a new purpose. It’s a celebration of the mezzé, kémia, and the ancient feasts. Each of its compartments offers a playful and evolutionary way to enjoy different flavors and colors, enhancing both the gustatory and visual dining experience.
.
Handcrafted by master artisans in Marrakech, ZelliFood is more than just a set of compartmentalized plates; it’s a testament to the rich Levantine and Maghrebi culinary traditions. Its dimensions (L. 30 x W. 30 x H. 1.5 cm, made of ceramic) make it a versatile and elegant addition to any dining table.
.
I’m also proud to share that a model of ZelliFood has been included in the archives of the prestigious École des Beaux-Arts in Tétouan, a recognition of the design’s cultural and artistic significance.
.
As we look back at this journey, I’m reminded of the power of collaboration and the beauty of blending traditional craftsmanship with modern design. ZelliFood is not just a product; it’s a piece of art that tells a story of cultural heritage, innovation, and culinary delight.
