Inspired by the process of cell division, Mitosis is a monumental sculpture made of approximately 1,500 large, handcrafted terracotta figures. These pieces overlap to form an organic body that is supported and held aloft by stainless steel rods.
From concept sketch to final sculpture, this was a 6-month journey of production and dedication!
The installation was another huge challenge. It started on the ground before being carefully raised to suspend this complex geometry one meter above the floor. We spent over a week assembling it, sometimes under a 38°C Marrakech sun!
All that work was worth it to see the project go from a simple idea and a small MDF model to this gravity-defying final installation. We are incredibly proud of the result, and a huge thank you to the entire team at @mcc_gallery for their support in making this happen!
