Why the Best Design Goes Unnoticed | Jasper Morrison
Jasper Morrison believes the best design is the design you don’t notice at all. Born in London in 1959, Morrison has spent his career creating objects so perfectly resolved they seem inevitable. Chairs, door handles, lights, even a tram for Hannover. A visceral encounter with Memphis design in 1981 set him on a path to champion restraint over spectacle, function over expression. From his early Handlebar Table made with bicycle parts to pioneering gas-injection molding with the Air Chair, from his collaboration with Naoto Fukasawa on the Super Normal exhibition to his work for Vitra, Magis, Cappellini, and Flos, Morrison’s influence on contemporary design is everywhere, quietly shaping the objects we use every day.
